(URBANDALE) – Gov. Terry Branstad released the following statement today on the passing of Hal Manders, whose funeral will be held today:
“Hal Manders was a great American, friend and mentor who I will greatly miss. He loved his family, his state and his country. He grew up on a farm and he returned to the land. He loved life in rural America.
“Hal was a talented athlete who pitched in the big leagues, but he never forgot where he came from. He was a hard-working Iowan who always remembered his friends.
“I share in the sorrow of those who mourn him, and share in the joy of the thousands of lives he touched during his time with us.”
Branstad encourages people to learn about Manders by visiting the Waukee Public Library, where numerous memorabilia are on display for viewing, charting the life and times of this remarkable Iowan.
