(URBANDALE, Iowa) – The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign today announced that former Gov. Terry Branstad will compete in three Republican gubernatorial primary debates.

The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign has accepted an invitation to an April 7 debate to be held at KTIV studios in Sioux City. KTIV is partnering with sister stations, KWWL in Waterloo, and KTTC in Rochester, MN.

The second debate will be held in Cedar Rapids on May 1, and is sponsored by the Iowa Broadcast News Association.

The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign will also accept an invitation to participate in the traditional Des Moines Register debate in Des Moines, which is held each primary campaign.

“This will give Iowans all over the state a chance to view the Republican gubernatorial candidates, and where each stands on the issues,” said Boeyink. “We are excited to participate in these debates.”

Former Reps. Jim and Jamie Van Fossen endorse Branstad for governor

(URBANDALE) – The Branstad 2010 campaign announced today that former Reps. Jamie and Jim Van Fossen, both of Davenport, have endorsed Terry Branstad’s campaign for governor and will serve as Scott County co-chairs.

“We are plunging into a deep hole in our state’s budget, and we need someone with the capacity to restore responsibility with our finances,” said Jamie Van Fossen, former chair of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. “Governor Branstad left our state with a $900 million surplus, and it has since been squandered. It is time for fiscal responsibility to come back.”

Jim Van Fossen, a former police officer, says he admires the hands-on approach Gov. Branstad took with regard to problem-solving.

“Governor Branstad did not duck from the challenges Iowa faced,” said Jim Van Fossen. “He met them head-on, and that included economic development. He is a proven recruiter for new jobs, and job expansion. We need a leader like Terry Branstad to again put the focus on economic development.”

Gov. Branstad welcomed the support.

“Jim and Jamie are leaders, and I am excited to have them supporting me and working on my behalf,” said Gov. Branstad. “With their help, we can help lead Iowa’s comeback and restore responsibility to state government.
