Branstad 2010 adds two legislative endorsements

(URBANDALE, Iowa) – Gov. Terry Branstad today announced the support of two legislators, Sen. Jim Hahn, R-Muscatine, and state Rep. Renee Schulte, R-Cedar Rapids.

“Terry Branstad is the person who can best lead this state through our budget crisis,” said Hahn, who served during Branstad’s term, 1991-1999. “I have seen firsthand his effective, conservative leadership. I look forward to working with him to identify ways to streamline our services.”

Schulte stressed the need for a governor who works with Iowans and comprehends the challenges families face.

“We need a leader who understands the concerns of Iowans, and Governor Branstad is out there, working every day to offer new ideas,” said Schulte. “We need jobs, a responsible state budget and a better educational system. Terry Branstad understands this and is offering meaningful solutions.”

Branstad pledged to work with Hahn and Schulte.

“I welcome the support of Jim and Renee, because it will take all of us working together to lead Iowa’s comeback,” said Branstad. “They are on the legislative front lines every day, and I appreciate their commitment to job creation, fiscal responsibility and to my campaign.”

BRANSTAD 2010 ACCEPTS THREE DEBATE OPPORTUNITIES

(URBANDALE, Iowa) – The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign today announced that former Gov. Terry Branstad will compete in three Republican gubernatorial primary debates. 

“We welcome the opportunity to discuss the future of Iowa with our primary opponents,” said campaign manager Jeff Boeyink. “The governor looks forward to sharing his message of job creation, family income growth and restoring fiscal responsibility to the state’s budget.” 

The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign has accepted an invitation to an April 7 debate to be held at KTIV studios in Sioux City. KTIV is partnering with sister stations, KWWL in Waterloo, and KTTC in Rochester, MN. 

The second debate will be held in Cedar Rapids on May 1, and is sponsored by the Iowa Broadcast News Association. 

The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign will also accept an invitation to participate in the traditional Des Moines Register debate in Des Moines, which is held each primary campaign. 

“This will give Iowans all over the state a chance to view the Republican gubernatorial candidates, and where each stands on the issues,” said Boeyink. “We are excited to participate in these debates.”

Branstad Proposes New Budget Practices

New policy rollout includes biennial budgets, 5-year planning & an end to bad budget habits

(BURNSIDE, Iowa) – Gov. Terry Branstad today rolled out new policy that would end bad budget practices, replace yearly budgets with a biennial budget process, and develop and implement a five-year financial plan for state government.

Rep. Doug Struyk endorses Branstad for Governor

(URBANDALE) – The Branstad 2010 campaign announced today that State Rep. Doug Struyk is supporting Terry Branstad’s campaign for governor and will serve as a co-chair in Pottawattamie County. 

Struyk stressed the need for job creation in his support of Gov. Branstad. 

“Governor Branstad is a proven leader with regard to job creation and economic development,” said Struyk, who was first elected to the Iowa House in 2002. “He is not afraid to make the tough decisions when it comes to bringing in new business and industry, and encouraging the expansion of current companies and small businesses in Iowa. It is time for small businesses to have a governor who’s on their side.” 

Gov. Branstad welcomed Struyk’s support, and looks forward to working with him on job creation and fixing Iowa’s budget. 

“As our state faces a projected $1 billion deficit, I will look to leaders like Doug Struyk to help me control spending and put Iowa back on a path of solid fiscal management,” said Branstad. “I will work with him to help lead Iowa’s comeback and am proud to have him join our team.”
